It seems that as time goes by, life becomes more rushed and complicated by new technology and greater time constraints at every turn. There are ways to achieve serenity.
Spending time with loved ones and raising a family can seem like a chore instead of the joy when so many different stimuli demand attention. Here are some ideas on how to slow down and readjust a too hectic life in order to achieve inner peace, enhance mental health and reduce disease-causing anxiety. Organizing Makes Order Out of Chaos for Busy AdultsAn organized person has an edge because he feels more in control of his surroundings and his life. This means maintaining a balanced household budget and keeping records, appointments and events in a systematized date book or planner. Using this tool religiously will save time and will eliminate the stress created when a household bill is forgotten or a child’s school appointment needs to be rescheduled due to overbooked activities. Keeping priorities in mind is an underlying principle worth practicing. Taking the time to jot down a list of those things in life that are at the top of the critically important list, will help one make the right decisions about how to spend time and efforts. Balance Spiritual, Physical and Mental Aspects of LifeMaintain balance in life. If a job is too stressful because it demands ten hours of overtime every week, it may be time to find another job with a greater degree of personal flexibility. Don’t let job stress into the home setting. Worrying about things that are uncontrollable or cannot be addressed from home is a waste of precious time and needless anxiety. Some folks will ritualize the transfer of stress by touching a tree or other inanimate object as they walk into the home. Let the tree take the stress away from the mind and body. When out with the family enjoying a picnic, listening to the birds and the sound of waves lapping the shore, be there in that moment. Don’t think about what to do for supper or what to do ten minutes from now. Savor each and every great moment. Keep traditions alive and develop family rituals. Families with strong religious traditions tend to have a very dynamic emotional bond with one another. Whether they read Hebrew passages from the Bible or sing gospel music together, this kind of shared experience is very powerful. Practice Serene Activities for Inner HarmonyTo achieve inner harmony and peace, consider learning how to meditate, practice yoga or learn Tai Chi. Do it while listening to cool new age music. Take a long walk in the woods or read great literature like Jane Austen, James Joyce or Henry David Thoreau. Take a long bath or splurge on a massage. Many find these activities to be healing and relaxing. If an individual finds these activities are calming and centering, it's important to make time for these activities. Schedule them in a planner if it helps to make the time available. The lesson here is to enjoy life. Reconnect with friends. Join a card game with the seniors or volunteer at the local hospital for a couple of hours. It’s true that time is short, so one needs to make every moment count. No one will ever say, she wasted too much of her life achieving inner peace.
