Worry, like happiness, starts in the mind. Everyone can find peace and contentment in the midst of economic turmoil just by focusing on what life is meant to be.
In a time of economic turmoil, it's difficult to find anything to be happy about. Worries weigh heavily on those facing job losses, a decline in the standard of living and future prospects that look grim. Now, more than ever, people are simply worried. Worry can't be totally eliminated; It provides the spark to overcome problems and grow in character. But when worry takes complete control, it freezes creative thinking and inevitably leads to mental and physical illness that are not so easily overcome. The ability to handle worry is not taught in major universities. Most people simply do not know that there are ways to lessen worry and provide the excitement and spark back into life no matter what the economic circumstances may be. Worry is linked to goal setting. Most people have not taken the time to set a plan to handle economic chaos and find themselves unable to cope with the pressures of day-to-day existence. But even in uncertain times there are methods that can be employed to make life easier. Live for Today OnlyThe present moment is all anyone has. Other than the lessons it can teach, the past is gone and should be buried. The future is a great unknown. It makes little sense of worrying about a future that, in most cases, will never come to pass as you expect it. While planing for the future is important, there is little use in worry today as it will only freeze up the actions leading to a better tomorrow. Stay Cheerful to Combat Worry Cheerfulness lifts the spirit and keeps the mind open to possibilities. It doesn't mean ignoring existing problems or refusing to address them, it does mean that the mind can find peace despite a great deal of turmoil. Cheerfulness comes from knowing that the standard of living of many people in impoverished nations is far worse. Eliminate Worry by Counting BlessingsIt's human nature to want more and strive for a better life. But for many it becomes a constant obsession. It's contemplating on what is lacking that brings up worry and fear. One of the best ways to lessen worry is to simply realize that life is much more than the pursuit of physical possessions. Advertising bombards everyone with messages that no one can be happy unless they have the latest technology, car or house. The fact is that people can be happy with what they possess today rather than worry about what they don't have. Be Generous to Lessen Worries There are those who find joy in simply helping someone else who is less fortunate than they are. A giving attitude removes the selfishness that leads to worry. Showing kindness and charity teaches that everyone exists for the purpose of serving one another. Generosity without expecting compensation returns tenfold. It establishes friendships and relieves loneliness and the desperate feelings many people have that there is no one to turn to for help when they need it. Expect IngratitudeGenerosity does not always get rewarded with gratitude. It is the fault of human nature to ignore good deeds. But doing favor for someone should be a selfless act without the expectation of a thank you from the person receiving aid. Many people simply stew and worry over ingratitude when it is better to move on with life and forget about the transgression.
Reduce Worry By Being Unique No two people are the same, so it does little good to try to emulate an idol. The youth of today is easily influenced by the slim models on the covers of fashion magazines and go to great lengths at the expense of their health to look like those models. Many worry they will be left behind if they don't possess the latest technology. Rather than reduce worry, following the latest diet craze or fad only enhances it. It may be in to follow the crowd, but uniqueness stands out far more and with less problems. Get Active and Find Solutions to Worries Too many people worry simply because they have the luxury to do it. Tackling a problem with imagination and creativity means there is much less time for worry. The people who busy themselves in reaching for a goal have no time to keep their thoughts focused on fear and worry. Activity on something that is fun and rewarding gives purpose to life. Worry solves no problems. Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed. A few simple changes can help eliminate most worry and anxiety. A calm approach and a clear mind can help find creative solutions to every problem. Those who have learned to handle stress are the ones who are poised for growth once the economic good times roll again.
