Positive affirmations are important to a positive attitude and achieving goals. More on the importance of correct format for powerful affirmations.
Positive attitude and positive thinking are linked to greater health, increased happiness, and longevity. Properly constructed positive affirmations are an important ingredient for a positive attitude. This is the second article on positive affirmations and positive attitude. You may want to read the previous article first, then come back to this.
Previously , we had crafted our affirmation using first person, present tense, and emotion. When we left off it read as follows:
I am proud and happy now that I am a positive person.
There's one more ingredient to add to the mix--visualization. If you can plant a vivid picture within the affirmation it will strengthen it by making it more real.
I am bubbling with pride and flushed with happiness now that I am a positive person.
Now we have a strong affirmation: first person, present tense, vivid and filled with emotion. We've also kept it brief, which helps us to remember it and makes it easier to post on the wall, carry in purse or wallet, and say it to ourselves in brief moments during a busy day.
If you're like most people you feel some discomfort writing and saying an affirmation such as, I am a positive person. Because becoming a positive person is your goal, you're obviously not as positive now as you'd like to be and it feels dishonest to say it as stated.
The issue here isn't one of being honest, it's one of degrees of being positive. Most likely, you are that person of your goal at some times, perhaps not as often or not as completely as you'd like, but some times. So it is true to say the statement; it's just not true 100% of the time, but what it is?
Stating your affirmation in present tense solidifies and intensifies your focus on that goal. This is critical to attaining a positive attitude and any other goal you desire.
Taking present tense affirmation statement one step further, an affirmation even more powerful than I am is the gratitude prayer. It would go something like this:
Thank you God, for helping me be a positive person.
The Law of Attraction states that we attract unto ourselves that which is like us in vibrational frequency and emotion. When you state a positive affirmation, with vivid emotion, and repeat it frequently, you're elevating your vibrational energy toward positive things. The Law of Attraction says that more positive things will be attracted to you.
Do you have the habit of negative self-talk? It goes something like this: you recognize that you've reacted negatively to a situation, and in disgust you say to yourself, "I'm such a negative person." Be very careful of this habit, because it's an affirmation too.
Negative self-talk can reinforce and strengthen just what you're trying to overcome. Think of it as a negative affirmation, cancelling out your well intentioned positive affirmations.
Sometimes we make similar statements out loud in the presence of others. Haven't we all said a times, somewhat in jest to a friend, "Oh, I'm so dumb sometimes." Do you recognize the components of an affirmation? I am dumb.
Now you have the basic structure and format of powerful affirmations to help you in your journey of personal development and growth. Use affirmations regularly.
