Overcoming negativity each day may be challenging. Negative images, messages, and conversations are a part of life. Here are three tips to help keep a positive attitude.
Never has humanity been so bombarded with hundreds of other peoples ideas, agendas, and words on a daily basis. The words and ideas presented in media and by other people may be overtly negative. Many well meaning friends and family also feel overwhelmed by life. Unknowingly their complaints may be disheartening to hear. There is never a guarantee that there will be no trouble in life. Changing the reaction that occurs when others are negative, is important to overcoming negativity. Here are a few tips to help you keep a positive attitude. Television MediaFind ways to enjoy media without having to hear news, numerous advertisements, or foul language. It is easy to be in a mood and hear a news story or conversation that is upsetting. Choose media outlets that have limited commercials and subtle advertising. Watch television shows that are not filled with excessive violence or are unpredictable language. Positive Words Selecting your words carefully is important. Complaining is easy to do. At first it is challenging to accept a situation and find results. The life problem you are experiencing may not have an easy answer, or a how to manual. Choosing positive words that do not discount your life's goals and purpose is important. View yourself as important, and worthy enough to experience good in your life. When other people complain, remind them of one great thing happening in their life. Try to not take on, or solve other peoples problems. Gratitude Journal Spend at least ten minutes each day to acknowledge things that are going well. Write down the positive items in a gratitude journal. Each individual has something to be thankful for. Find someone who needs something. Taking the time to encourage a family member or neighbor is important. The people around us usually are there to bring encouragement or support when we can not keep going in our own strength. Focusing on others is a great way to take away focus from personal problems. Do something for someone, and do not expect payment in return. Buy a struggling college student lunch, buy a single mother groceries, or by roses for women in the Shelters on Mothers day. Overcoming negativity is not easy, it takes daily practice. It involves deciding to sculpt the environment at work and home. Control what is heard and seen. Watch and listen to media that is uplifting, positive, and entertaining. If there are unsolvable problems, use free time to find solutions. Use these tips to help overcome negativity.
